Grown from CeeD
Installation: August/September 2022
Grown from CeeD (pronounced ‘seed’) is an abstract sculpture by Philip Barnett.
It consists of 8 symbolic flowers representing the 8 billion people on planet Earth.
The varying colours and heights represent the diversity of the human race.
We come in different sizes, colours, and shapes.
Yet we all start life in the same way.
We are "… fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer …" (part of Shylock’s speech from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice)
We must treasure both the similarities and the differences, acting with kindness and compassion.
